Many of our favorite “finds” come from estate sales that we track down weekly and where we make sure to be among those first in line. However there’s also the allure of major events, such as Texas Antiques Week (which actually lasts for three weeks) that takes place each Spring and Fall.Photography by Molly Glentzer, published on Chrome.com.
Texas Antiques Week is often referred to as Round Top, in honor of the tiny Texas town where it all began. Today, though, there are actually four miles along Highway 237 between Warrenton and Round Top where flea markets, popup antique stores, barbecue stands and more suddenly appear. Not all merchandise is antique, but almost all is fascinating, and a party atmosphere permeates the event, with many vendors actually staying in the surrounding area for a week or two both before and after the official dates. Of course the experience is made even better by the grub that’s offered up, including the scrumptious pies from Royers. Another “can’t miss” event on the near horizon is the Brimfield Antique Show, Brimfield, MA, starting May 12th and going thru May 17th. (Additional dates already announced include July 14th -19th and September 8th – 13th.)Photography from The Boston Day Book.
Brimfield is actually a series of shows, spread out through the week in and around Brimfield, MA over 20-plus fields and involving over thousands of vendors. Opening day is on Tuesdays, with members of the interior design trade doing most of the initial buying. The general public tends to shop the weekends. Haggling over prices is strongly encouraged, but to grab the best items it’s highly advised to go early in the day. Later in the week is when the best deals are available. Most importantly, though, bring plenty of cash and don’t forget that cart – frequent trips across the fields to cars put a huge crimp in shopping time. Get more info here.
