Bringing a Touch of Vacation Back Home
Recently I was fortunate enough to enjoy a 10-day vacation with lots of sun, sand and sea. I was a repeat visitor at the vacation resort, and again enjoyed the special touches.
Over the course of my career I have been a frequent traveler both here and abroad. Often I’ve seen toiletries, experienced linens and slept on the most comfortable of beds. What I’ve discovered is I’m not alone in wanting to be able to take some of these items home with me. Several hospitality industry leaders have realized this and responded accordingly by launching their own eCommerce sites. Examples include the following:Photography courtesy of The Luxury Collection.
Starwood Hotels and Resort Properties are both promoting their luxurious resorts as well as enabling even armchair travelers to enjoy aspects of The Luxury Collection experience. By creating The Luxury Collection Store, it is able to offer for sale a somewhat diverse selection of items, including its beds, pillows, bedding, and bath and spa products. It also presents a category referred to simply as “Luxuries”. Here it is possible to acquire photographs by Helena Christensen, a special Luxury Collection candles, curated playlists, and books carefully selected to reflect the brand itself, including Hotel Stories and Epicurean Journeys.

Kimpton has taken a major leap into online selling, with an assortment that includes pillows, bedding, the Kimpton bed, bath robes, towels, bath accessories and bath and body products, plus travel bags, bar and wine accessories and even décor items. The latter includes throws and pillows, lamps, chairs, and accessories.Photography courtesy of ShopMarriott.com.
Marriott is another company that started by offering its bed. This, too, has turned into a full-fledged eCommerce initiative. A variety of bedding items, pillows, linens and bath items are also offered. “Lifestyle” is also included as a sort of catchall category including lamps, wall art, trays and scent diffusers at the current time
It’s always nice to return home, but even better when a bit of “hunting” enables us to bring a bit of our vacation back with us.
